Department of Pharmacology
The Pharmacology Department at Gurugram Global College of Pharmacy is dedicated to providing a comprehensive understanding of the science of drugs and their effects on living systems. Pharmacology is the core of pharmaceutical education, focusing on how drugs interact with the body and how the body responds to them. This department plays a crucial role in developing skilled professionals who are equipped to contribute to drug discovery, development, and therapeutic applications.
Main Objective
Our department is integral to the B Pharmacy course, providing students with an in-depth understanding of drug action, therapeutic applications, and the safety profile of pharmaceutical substances. Our main objective is to produce future pharmacologists and healthcare professionals who are equipped with advanced knowledge and research skills to contribute to the betterment of human health by developing safe and effective therapeutic solutions.
Pharmacology is a new biomedical discipline that applied the principles of scientific experimentation to therapeutic contexts. The scope of pharmacology is rapidly expanding for the discovery, development and provides the rational basis for the therapeutic uses of new drugs. It involves study of chemical properties, biological effects, molecular mechanisms and therapeutic uses of drugs. Pharmacological studies emphasize effects of chemical agents upon subcellular mechanisms, to those that deal with the potential hazards of pesticides and herbicides, to those that focus on the treatment and prevention of major diseases by drug therapy. The scope of pharmacology has expanded exponentially over the last decade to incorporate many new approaches such as computer-assisted drug design, genetic screens and protein-engineering.
Pharmacology lab focuses on the study of effects of various drugs on human body and software is used to observe the activity of drugs, potency of drugs and adverse effects of drugs animal model. The pharmacology laboratories are well equipped with various sophisticated equipment like:
- Compound Microscope
- Haemoglobinometers
- Haemocytometers
- Spirometer
- Sphygmomanometer
- Actophotometer
- Analgesiometer
- Histamine Chamber
- Pole Climbing Apparatus
- Electrocovulsiometer
- Rota Rod Apparatus
- Recording Kymograph
- Student Organ Bath
- Glucometer
Graduates of the Pharmacology Department are well-equipped for a variety of career paths in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare industries. They can pursue roles in drug development, clinical research, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, and academic research. With the rapid advancements in pharmacology and personalized medicine, the demand for skilled pharmacologists is growing globally, offering a wide range of career opportunities.
