The Pharmacognosy Department at Gurugram Global College of Pharmacy is dedicated to the exploration and advancement of the science of natural products, particularly plant-based medicines. Pharmacognosy plays a pivotal role in the discovery, development, and standardization of natural drugs, many of which form the foundation of modern therapeutics. Our department aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the therapeutic potential of natural substances, helping to shape the future of alternative and complementary medicine.

Main Objective

Our department plays a vital role in the B Pharmacy course, offering students in-depth knowledge of the therapeutic potential of natural substances. Our main objective is to inspire students to become leaders in the field of pharmacognosy, contributing to the global understanding and utilization of natural resources for health and wellness.

Pharmacognosy is one of the core subjects in the field of pharmaceutical sciences which deals with the rapid developments in the knowledge and utilization of medicinal ingredients of natural origin (plant, animal and marine products) used in human and veterinary purpose. This subject provides information about the principles, procedures and techniques used in the identification, authentication, and extraction, isolation of potent phytochemicals by chromatography techniques, purification and development of herbal formulations and assay methods for the isolated constituents. It is also engaged in  the development of standardization protocols for the herbal constituents and formulations. The department is dedicated for the research in the field of Quality control of the herbal drug, which is utmost need of the hour. This department is also maintaining a herbal garden, which serves as an educational display of medicinal and aromatic plants. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 80 percent of the population of some Asian and African countries presently uses herbal medicine for some aspect of primary health care. The export of medicinal plants and herbs from India has increased in the last few centuries. So, Pharmacognosy branch have a broad scope in isolation, identification and standardization of crude drugs and bioactive compounds for further usage.
